Kenworth Unveils Next Gen of Aerodynamic Trucks
The T600 started a revolution and ultimately led to the unveiling of the latest aerodynamic Kenworth – the reimagined Kenworth Next Gen T680.
Start with the most highly evolved aerodynamic long-haul tractor Kenworth has ever engineered. Optimize the powertrain with an efficient, fully-integrated solution from PACCAR. Incorporate easier-to-service, longer-lived components for maximum uptime.
Add smart technology that makes driving more intuitive, safer, less fatiguing. And include a world-class cabin reminiscent of the finest automobiles. Welcome to the Kenworth T680, Next Gen.
In a big unveiling emceed by Kevin Baney, GM of Kenworth, the Next Gen T680 rolled out to hype music and global fanfare via virtual feed. The ultra-efficient truck features improved aerodynamics and a level-up of interior options.
The T680 Next Gen employs a suite of intelligent technologies designed to elevate the driving experience like never before – offering safer, more intuitive control and a full range of productivity features.
If one looks closely at the exterior, the details of lineage start to emerge. The side skirts resemble the first of their kind that debuted on the T600. The hood and grille shape harkens to the days of the T660. The wide cab and sleeper are a distinct T680 look. This new Kenworth is the ultimate aero truck in the anteater lineage.
T680 Technology Features
15-INCH DIGITAL DISPLAY
An industry-first at this size, the new 15-inch high-definition, fully digital instrumentation contains all the information a driver needs to operate the truck – configurable for as much or as little content as they want.
NEXT GEN SMARTWHEEL
The new smartwheel places the most crucial vehicle controls – including Digital Display features – instantly at hand with tactile, eyes-on-the-road function choices.
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Reads traffic conditions via front-facing radar sensor and modulates the throttle and the brakes to keep your truck at a pre-set distance from the vehicle in front of it.
Detects when the truck may be about to collide with another vehicle or object, alerts the driver, and takes pre-emptive braking action — when necessary — to avoid or considerably reduce the severity of a crash.
SIDE OBJECT DETECTION
Continuously monitors a truck’s blind spots and provides the driver with audible and visual alerts when an object or vehicle has entered these zones — invaluable when making a lane change or negotiating tight delivery sites.
TORQUE ASSISTED STEERING
Adds supporting torque to the steering column, enhancing feel and driver comfort while reducing fatigue. Three torque levels are available based on driver preference, with the amount of assistance determined by vehicle speed (less at higher speeds).
LANE DEPARTURE WARNING
This system continually monitors the truck’s location related to lane markings. It automatically emits a distinctive audible warning whenever an unintended lane change (unsignaled) is detected — alerting the driver to correct.
LANE KEEP ASSIST
Uses camera input to identify when the truck is departing the lane (at above 37 mph) and “nudges” the truck back into position. Automatically discerns between turn signal indicated and errant lane changes. A disabling switch allows for temporary disablement of the system.
