The future of trucking is here: the W990. This long hood conventional model is a modern take on the fan favorite W900. This model was officially released on September 27, 2018, in Las Vegas. To promote the new W990, Kenworth set up a tour that traveled around the United States to premiere their new crown model. It only made sense that the W990 Tour made a stop at Michigan Kenworth.
On October 25, 2018, the W990 arrived in Dearborn, Michigan to the pleasure of dozens of Michigan Kenworth employees, customers, and executives. Emily Smith on the Michigan Kenworth Marketing Team had some great words about this new unit:
“It is when you are face to face with the truck that you build your personal perspective, as the photos just do not do this truck justice. It does not disappoint on looks and rivals with an intimidating hood length. It’s a great modern version of a classic Kenworth truck.”
The event kicked off at 11:30, with a warm welcome from Michigan Kenworth and Paccar executives, followed by W990 walkarounds and a catered lunch. With a large crowd on hand, the W990’s Michigan debut provided an excellent opportunity for customers and fans of Kenworth to see, touch, and hear the W990 in action.
“The new Kenworth W990 is a reflection of the Kenworth brand, The World’s Best, which represents the quality, engineering excellence, and both customer and driver focus that goes into every Kenworth we build,” said Mike Dozier, Kenworth General Manager, and PACCAR Vice President. “We are passionate about our products, our customers that depend on them, and the drivers that operate them. We know that there are many customers and drivers out there who share our passion. The Kenworth W990 represents the pride, image, and freedom of trucking, and captures the spirit of what trucking is all about.”
More about the W990
The W990 sets a new industry standard in performance, specifically in the operations of line and heavy haulers. The model sets a bold presence, with a solid 131.5 inches from front bumper to the back of the cab, and a proven 2.1-meter cab platform – the proven standard for T680 and T880 models.
The W990 features similar configurations to other 2.1 meter cabs currently in production – a day cab, a 40-inch flat top, 52″ and 76” mid-roof sleepers. All W990’s come standard with the Paccar MX-13 engine (1850 lbs.-ft of torque and rated with 510 horsepower). Additionally, the 990 comes with an optional 12-speed automated Paccar transmission, 40K tandem rear axles, and Kenworth’s TruckTech + remote diagnostics system. The instrument panel’s Nav+HD seven-inch display provides drivers with roadside assistance, vehicle analytics, and hands-free calling.
